Gems

Some things around the house just make me happy.  Usable art.  Something I get to look at every day, admire.  I would even be so bold as to say they inspire me.

I’ve always used a weekly pill sorter to remind myself to take allergy pills at night, other medicines in the morning.  I’ve always used a pretty jar to contain my eyeliners and mascaras on whatever I’m using as a vanity.  And I have to take my engagement ring off at night – I’ve never been able to sleep with jewelry on.

The pill sorter is from Anabela over at Field Guided.  I’ve followed Anabela and James at Bleubird for four years or so.  Before Miss James and her family moved from Texas to Nashville, she posted a gift package on Instagram that Anabela sent her.  One of the items was an amazingly chic pill sorter.  Black, with gold writing.  It stuck with me, I thought about it every time I filled my week with vitamins and pills.

Nearly a year later, I decided one day to contact Anabela and ask her where she got such a unique pill sorter.  This is, of course, after spending that year searching the internet high and low.  And let me tell you, I know how to find things in the murky depths of the internet.  She got back to me and told me they were for sale in one of her local drugstores in Canada.  Within days, I gave her money on Paypal for it and she sent me one.  Simple as that.  The beauty of the internet, and blogging communities.  It was worth every second of my time.

The jar was a thrifting find, fifty cents.  And it coincides so nicely with my wedding colors that I was immediately drawn to it.  I love the curving of the gold lines.  The tiny dish is from Up in the Air Somewhere, a wonderful ceramic shop on Etsy.  It sits right by my bed, where I nest my ring at night.

There they are, some gems around my home.  Simple, small things bring me so much cheer that I think there may be something wrong with me.  But if that’s wrong, I don’t want to be right!
